What girl doesn’t enjoy a little eye candy on her nails? This season’s trends for nail color are bolder than ever and with the holidays right around the corner, shades with specks of glitter and metallic are right on the money. Nail art experimentation is also in full swing. Many celebs have sported the half moon (reverse French) manicure in many different color combinations. Another big trend is a different take on the French mani with unexpected color combinations.

As with makeup, you want your nails to compliment your skin tone. For fair skin, look for colors with blue undertones. Choose paler pinks, bright reds, or creamier taupes. Typically pale skin looks better with shorter nails, and unless you really dig the gothic look, stay away from black or very dark blues for polish.

Medium/tan skin tones look great with lighter colors to complement the darker undertone of the skin, especially corals and peaches. Almost any color will suit this skin tone except for gold, which may blend in too much and look pasty. Try a cool color like a dark green or the grey/brown shade.

Dark skin tones look great with darker nail color. Some of the darker charcoals and plums really stand out on dark complexions. Bright shades pop, just be aware that they will look even brighter with darker skin. Avoid dark browns that might simply blend into skin tone.
